Filming Crew Introduction (video & pictures)

As A.S students we were told to get into groups and the minimum number of members in each group is two (2) and also the maximum number is three (3). We managed to get together and decided that we were going to work together as a group of three (3). The day that we came together to form a group, we gave each other specific roles of what each one of us will be doing. It was easy for us to allocate roles and responsibilities, and this is because we communicated well and understood each other, which is vital when working with other people as a group.
The roles and responsibilities for each of us are as follows:

DIRECTOR "Takura S Chikomo"
As the director I have more responsibility than other members and one of the reasons is that l have to make sure that everything they are doing is right and l will be referring to the paper work, and when it comes to shooting the movie l will be referring to the storyboard and the script mainly. As the director l will also be helping the editor. One of the reasons l was chose to be the director is that l have had previous experience in both using the camera and editing and then because of that l will be able to help the cameraman and the editor. I also feel that the role l was given is suitable for me and l will be able to do it well. I'm also carrying my own research on what a director does and this is for me to get extra knowledge. I'm the one who also did the editing for the above introduction crew video and l also have been reading the final cut pro book. I will be in charge of the inventive, artistic or creative and dramatic or theatrical aspects, while guiding the actors and the technical crew.
VIDEOGRAPHER "Sophie"
Sophie is going to be the videographer, working with the camera recording the moving images and sound on tape. She will be the main figure in the technical areas, but l will also be helping her.
 EDITOR "Joshua"
Joshua will be the one putting the scenes and shots together. He will be the editor, editing the moving images and also the sound tracks. Joshua will be using "Final Cut Pro" to edit the movie. I'm also going to be helping Joshua in editing.

Further Research On Horror Movies

As an A.S student l have so much passion for media and everything that involves it, including films and because of that l have decided to do my own further delve into “HORROR” movies. The reason l have decided to explore on the horror genre is basically because it’s the genre that l am going to film as part of my coursework.
Horror as a strapping genre on its own, targets to trigger the negative emotional reactions from all the audience who watch movies of that genre. Some of the things that l have seen appearing in most horror movies include “nightmares, ghosts, shock of unknown, zombies, vampires, blood, death, serial killers and many more. Despite the fact that horror is terrifying/ frightening, many people seem to still love it and this is supported by the evidence that l found below:
DAWN OF THE DEAD (2004)

SAW (2004)

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

The horror movie have been prominent ever since the 1890’s, but during that time they did not have some of the special effects that are used now are days and this means they had limit on what they could do and in some cases this automatically affected some scenes. Some of the old horror movies of the 80’s and 90’s include:
ü  Photographing a Ghost – This movie was released in United Kingdom in August 1898.
ü  Le Manoir Du Diable – It was released in 1896 in France.
ü  The Prince Of Darkness – This movie was released in 1900 in United States Of America.
ü  Bride Of The Monster – It was released in 1955 in United States Of America.
For a movie to be called horror it have to be consisted of some things and these are known as codes and convention. When audiences buy a horror DVD, or go to the cinema to watch a horror movie, they want their expectations to be fulfilled and this is part of the director’s job.
There are also some horror movies that do not do well and this is according to the audience feedback but these same movies will do well when it comes “box office”, for example “Paranormal Activity 1” costed almost nothing to make but made more money than what people expected. Some of the movies the audience didn’t like include:
ü  Paranormal Activity 1 & 2
ü  The Village

The main reason the audience gave these negative feedbacks is that they say the movies were not scary enough and this may be so because of:
1.       Poor use of lighting
2.       Poor use of camera angles/shots (there are some camera shots that are used in most successful horrors for example “extreme close up”)
3.       Poor use of soundtracks
Because most audience have seen some horror movies before, the production companies that will be making movies of this genre have to make sure that they deliver good products and this will be good for their reputation and it will also boost their future sales for their future products to come.

First Feedback (paper checklist)

This is my check list for my media coursework. I received this check list from my teacher but all the text that is written in red is my own additional research i decided to carry out. I decided to add my own research because it will help me have a better understanding of the horror genre that i'm doing as part of my coursework. I will also be constantly uploading this checklist to show my progress to my teacher, in terms of what i have done and haven't and also what i have added.

Title Analysis "Prove" for Dawn Of The Dead

This video is the title analysis prove to show that l did all the work my self and didn't copy it from anyone. I shot the video my self and edited it my self as well. I did this as my own additional work, as it is not written on the checklist.

Apart from the videos l also managed to take a couple of pictures while l was doing the title analysis for Dawn Of The Dead.

I took the first two pictures above when l was watching the clip on youtube while taking the titles so that l could put the on Microsoft publisher 2007. I had to pause the youtube sequence l was watching and then print screen the whole page, after that l had to paste the picture on Microsoft publisher and the cut it to the size l wanted.

The above three pictures are to show when l was analysing titles and typing. Just like the video, l took the pictures my self as well.

Dawn Of The Dead opening sequence (Title analysis)

This is my "Title Analysis" that l have done for the horror movie Dawn of the Dead. I have looked and put together all the titles that appear in the 2 minute 32 seconds opening sequence and also noted why the director put them there and how he used title techniques to convey meaning to the audience at the same time how relevant the type of titles he used are to the genre of the movie.

Dawn Of The Dead opening sequence (Picture Analysis)

The eight (8) small pictures above are part of the opening sequence that l analysed and I had to print screen them as l watched the sequence again and then put the together using microsoft power point . These pictures also help us easily recognise the type of genre that this film is, help us know what the movie is all about.

The next five (5) pictures under are some of the pictures showing the events that take place in the actual whole movie. These pictures give the audience a clear view of the movie.
The first picture is the DvD cover of the movie and it's really relevant to the horror genre at the same time supported by the tagline "Scary As Hell!".
The second picture is a man who is bleeding beyond what people have seen, meaning something extra ordinary/unsual is taking place.
The third picture have people running and you can't really tell wheather they are running for their lives or running to go and attack people. This is all reviewed in the movie. In other words this picture get's you thinking of what is taking place.
Just like the third picture, the forth picture leaves the audience in suspense and they can only be clear of what;s going on when they watch the movie, because in this picture all that can be said is that something unusual is happening, but you can't tell what it is and l think the director have managed to show this well in picture 3 and picture 4.
The fifthy picture is a woman who have so much blood around her body and clothes and this shows that she must have been attacked but managed to escape. She is also looking at something and she is in shock of what is  going on.

Dawn Of The Dead opening sequence (Conventions Analysis)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmyWfp2aFkc

Dawn of the Dead presented by Universal pictures is a very horrific movie, as it starts with the blood written texts and goes straight into a new location where many people were bowing down and the director used an establishing shot to show this. At this same time, the director used a sound track that suited the film diegesis and it creates tension. Soon after this the director used blood text again and there is a big screem and then we see one person with an open mouth with blood in it and at this moment the genre of the movie became clear, as the title of the movie is reviewed aswell with blood written text "DAWN OF THE DEAD".

After, we hear many screems and another person with blood in the mouth flashes on the screen, as we see people with breathing masks and a voice over asking "is it a virus" is used. At this time the director used a heart beat sound and this keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. During this time the person with blood in the mouth keeps flashing and people screeming, while the voice over is being used to ask questions about the unknown and unusual things that were taking place in the city.

As the heart beat continues, the person with blood in their mouth appears again in the hospital, screaming into the camera, and then a sudden hard cut is used. At this time, a member of the deasease prevention come out responding to the question, as he said "we don't know", and a close up shot was used to show how stressed and worried he was and his face is looking sweaty.

After this an untypical soundtrack for a horror movie was used with the director, as the army was running around shooting people and people were running around. This was also being anounced on the news and this scene goes on for a couple of seconds and there is major confusion in the city because of the shooting and the running around. The fights that were taking place, as a result caused fire, and during this time the blood writtens texts are still apearing on the screens after a couple of seconds.

As the opening sequences continues, the whole city is fighting and armed security is moving around. At this time more people with blood are reviewed and this was to emphasise the genre. As more fire started and more confusing, a track rolling down the town comes along going where many people were and they all started screeming trying to run away for their lives.

More people kept on flashing on the screen, and more blood written texts appeared. The director also introduced some images that couldn't be understood, but l believe they will be reviewed in the movie. At this time again, an ubnormall fleet of police cars is being driven down the town with siren and lights on and this shows that something major had happened.

As things worsened, dead people on the roads are reviewed and some being picked up by the ambulances. People left their offices, as they arte shown with no one inside. The director also takes us to the state house, where the media crew is shot by the military and during all this action blood texts were still being used by the director to introduce some characters. Virus clips are also shown by the director and this suggest that what ever was going on was because of it. At the end of the scene, the news reporter and the security got attached by many poeple who had the same virus as others.
