Dawn Of The Dead opening sequence (Conventions Analysis)

Dawn of the Dead presented by Universal pictures is a very horrific movie, as it starts with the blood written texts and goes straight into a new location where many people were bowing down and the director used an establishing shot to show this. At this same time, the director used a sound track that suited the film diegesis and it creates tension. Soon after this the director used blood text again and there is a big screem and then we see one person with an open mouth with blood in it and at this moment the genre of the movie became clear, as the title of the movie is reviewed aswell with blood written text "DAWN OF THE DEAD".

After, we hear many screems and another person with blood in the mouth flashes on the screen, as we see people with breathing masks and a voice over asking "is it a virus" is used. At this time the director used a heart beat sound and this keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. During this time the person with blood in the mouth keeps flashing and people screeming, while the voice over is being used to ask questions about the unknown and unusual things that were taking place in the city.

As the heart beat continues, the person with blood in their mouth appears again in the hospital, screaming into the camera, and then a sudden hard cut is used. At this time, a member of the deasease prevention come out responding to the question, as he said "we don't know", and a close up shot was used to show how stressed and worried he was and his face is looking sweaty.

After this an untypical soundtrack for a horror movie was used with the director, as the army was running around shooting people and people were running around. This was also being anounced on the news and this scene goes on for a couple of seconds and there is major confusion in the city because of the shooting and the running around. The fights that were taking place, as a result caused fire, and during this time the blood writtens texts are still apearing on the screens after a couple of seconds.

As the opening sequences continues, the whole city is fighting and armed security is moving around. At this time more people with blood are reviewed and this was to emphasise the genre. As more fire started and more confusing, a track rolling down the town comes along going where many people were and they all started screeming trying to run away for their lives.

More people kept on flashing on the screen, and more blood written texts appeared. The director also introduced some images that couldn't be understood, but l believe they will be reviewed in the movie.At this time again, an ubnormall fleet of police cars is being driven down the town with siren and lights on and this shows that something major had happened.

As things worsened, dead people on the roads are reviewed and some being picked up by the ambulances. People left their offices, as they arte shown with no one inside. The director also takes us to the state house, where the media crew is shot by the military and during all this action blood texts were still being used by the director to introduce some characters. Virus clips are also shown by the director and this suggest that what ever was going on was because of it. At the end of the scene, the news reporter and the security got attached by many poeple who had the same virus as others.
